Evaluating us.

There is no denying that the mass production of clothes has been detrimental to the environment in recent years. In the last decade, a glut of fast-fashion, low-quality styles has bored into global resources at an alarming rate.

There is no denying that the mass production of clothes has been detrimental to the environment in recent years. In the last decade, a glut of fast-fashion, low-quality styles has bored into global resources at an alarming rate. The fashion industry, known for its fast-paced production, is playing a significant role in exacerbating climate change on a global scale.

We are committed to doing things differently, promoting and embodying a modern, sustainable style. Expio focuses on designing and crafting exquisite menswear using low-impact materials to create styles of enduring appeal.

We acknowledge that finding a single solution to sustainability is not easy; it requires addressing various complex issues that are intricately connected as we continue on our journey.

As we grow, we plan to undertake life cycle assessments (LCAs) for all our styles. LCAs are globally used and accepted methods for assessing the environmental impacts of a product's life cycle from the cradle to the grave, including raw material extraction, material processing, product manufacture, distribution, use, disposal, and recycling.

The duration for which a garment is worn though is one aspect that is not easily measurable. How durable is the garment? How many times it is worn throughout its lifespan? This holds significance, both because the less we have to manufacture more – the better for the planet, and because our perception of how long an item will last influences our purchasing decisions and the way we treat our clothes.

When it comes to sustainability reports, durability has not received much attention. This may be attributed to the lack of a standard against which we can assess the longevity of our clothing. While it's possible to determine if something has torn or is no longer suitable for use, it's more challenging to gauge the emotional and physical durability of our garments. In order to better understand the value and impact of each style, we have devised an internal and external sustainability framework called the "Expio equation." We acknowledge that this equation is far from perfect but consider it as an honest and transparent reference point when assessing the impact of our styles.

The Expio Equation=
(S x P) ^L
In pursuit of the Optimum Garment

At Expio, our goal is to offer a garment that embodies the perfect combination of style, performance, and sustainability. We believe in creating clothing that doesn't sacrifice one aspect for another - whether it's compromising on style for sustainable intentions or sacrificing longevity for aesthetics.

Our aim is to design uncompromising garments that encompass style, performance, and sustainability. These garments are crafted with a conscious understanding of the importance of sustainability while also being able to withstand the elements at the highest level. Not only are they physically durable but also emotionally resilient.

Our equation looks at the whole of the garment, to help you understand how it compares; what’s great and what needs to improve.

Evaluation

The Expio Equation
= (S x P) ^L

Here’s an example of four styles, ranging from a low-scoring one to an exceptionally high-scoring one. The table demonstrates scores for each variable, with the Expio score at the bottom. Achieving a good score depends on preserving sustainability without compromising style or performance, as is often the trade-off in the current market, and which Expio seeks to address.

We are aware that this is an overly simplified approach to assessing the value of our styles. We also recognize the importance of validating our quantitative and intuitive assessments. How can we evaluate performance? How do we determine style, and which factors contribute to our sustainability ratings? Be assured that we are actively working on providing straightforward answers to these questions and sharing them with you so that you can apply the equation to any garment from any collection.

With a strong commitment to transparency and collaboration, we strive to enhance our working methods and revolutionize the apparel industry. Our pursuit of progress is not limited to Expio alone; it encompasses the entire apparel sector.
